Statement / Bio
Alexander Knox is an artist from Cape Town, South Africa.
He paints portraits in oils in the styles of social and imaginative realism that depict a dystopian, post-apocalyptic setting. This is what the near future will look like if the human race continues on our current trajectory towards climate change and nuclear war.
He got most of his inspiration from post-apocalyptic themed computer games and films. His subject matter is derived from photos that he takes of South African people and landscapes, but are chosen to be of universal reference.
Throughout his 6 years of professional experience he has been a top 40 finalist in the Sanlam portrait award three times and had a solo exhibition at the Association for Visual Arts Gallery in 2019.
